Financial Literacy Short Course--Extra Credit
This page provides student access to an online short course in financial literacy called Transit. The course is provided free of charge to all Iowa college students by the Iowa Insurance Division, which has contracted with the EverFi company, the creator of the course.
See below for registration information--and for solutions to a registration problem.
How to get extra credit:
The Transit course may be completed for up to 20 extra credit exam points. An "exam point" is the equivalent of one additional point on either a midterm or the final.
The course consists of 6 modules. For each module you complete successfully, you will receive 2 exam points. There is also a post-test. You will receive 8 additional exam points if you complete the post-test with a passing score of 70 or better.
The deadline for completing the extra credit points will be 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14. You may start the Transit course at any time up to the deadline. You don't have to complete it all in one sitting. You can log out part way through and come back later to complete the rest if you wish.
The first time you use the course you must register. To register, go to everfi.com/register. On that Education is Evolving page, click the Student/Learner tab and then enter the following in the Registration Code input box:
Then click the Next button. That takes you to a page that requests the following information:
- Enter your first and last names in the indicated boxes. Please enter your name as it appears on university records (i.e., no nicknames) so that we can be sure to give you proper credit.
- Enter your ISU email address in the next box.
- Enter a password of your choosing. Your password must be at least 8 characters and contain at least one special character or number. Be sure to write your password down for later use.
- Confirm the password in the next box.
- Select your age range (i.e., 18 or over).
- Click the "I agree to the terms of service" box.
- Then click the Next button.
Please make sure that you write down and keep a record of your password and the email address you entered, so that you can sign in again later.
On the next page, click the Get Started button to begin. Please complete both the Transit Survey 1 and the Transit Pre-Quiz. Then you may begin with the lessons.
If you get a registration error message about your email address being "taken":
The Transit vendor, the EverFi company, says the problem may be that you previously registered with EverFi in order to take their AlcoholEdu course through ISU. (Yes, it turns out it's the same vendor for both courses.) If so, you should try to fix the problem by logging back in to the AlcoholEdu course through http://everfi.com/login and then adding the Transit course. Once you get logged in, then follow the directions to add Transit to your previous login credentials.
Should that effort fail, you may also register for Transit using an off-campus email address (e.g., gmail), if you have one. If all else fails, contact Professor Quirmbach by email.
How to log in:
The next time you use the site, go to the Login page at http://everfi.com/login. Then enter the email address and password that you used to register.
Once you have registered, you may log in and work on the modules at any time.
Please report any problems to Professor Quirmbach by email. Remember that you may complete the extra credit exercise up until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016.
